The first major work in more than 50 years describing and illustrating this butterfly fauna.
This publication was commissioned by the Wildlife Heritage Trust of Sri Lanka, and is based on the collections of the British Museum (Natural History).

Each of the 197 Species of True Butterflies (Papilionoidea) ever recorded from the island is provided and a separate description, including the scientific name, common name, distribution information, taxonomic background, natural history, and where available, data on food plants and larval stages.

Both stages of all species are illustrated life size.
