All of the First Aid Supplementary Packs have been designed to further customise your first aid kit to perfectly suit your activity or lifestyle. These packs are also ideal for replenishing or updating existing kits.

This Pack contains quality components for the customization and refill of First Aid Kits. It is ideally suited to supplement a kit for 1 - 5 people on a trip length of 1 - 14 days and for adventure activities such as trekking or kayaking.

The Wound Management Pack (small) contains:

  • Medical & Kit Information
    • Contents / Instruction Sheet Emergency Action Card
      Use to aid rapid response in emergency situations. Contains an illustrated guide to Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and notes on 10 common life threatening emergencies.
  • Personal Protection Items
    • Protective Gloves x 2
      Use for bodily substance isolation i.e. place a glove on each hand before starting First Aid to prevent exposure to bodily fluids (blood, saliva, vomit etc.). Caution: Use only Nitrile or Vinyl Gloves if allergic to Latex. Alternatives: Wrap hands in clean plastic bags. Dispose of used gloves in Biohazard Bag. Replace Latex Gloves every 12 months.
    • Antiseptic wipes (chlorhexidine/alcohol) x 4
      Use to clean contaminated surfaces of blood, saliva, vomit etc. Dispose of in Biohazard Bag.
    • Snaplock Biohazard Bag and Sticker x 1
      Use to identify and pack contaminated materials for appropriate disposal.

  • Wound Treatment Items
    • Sterile Gauze Swabs (3) x 4
      Use as an aid to wound cleaning, burns cover (soaked in saline) and wound cover.
    • Iodine (10% povidone/iodine as Swabs (x 6) and Antiseptic Solution 15ml) x 2
      Use to clean dirty wounds (most effective within 30 minutes of injury). Irrigate wound with clean water after cleaning with Iodine.
      Caution: Do not use if there is a known allergy to iodine.
    • Sterile Normal Saline Solution x 1
      Use for final wound irrigation or as an eye wash.

    • Sterile Wound Irrigation Syringe x 1
      Use to irrigate wounds under pressure with clean water to dislodge dirt and germs from the wound site.

    • Combine Trauma Dressing x 1
      Use to pack large bleeding wounds after initial bleeding control by direct pressure.
      Alternatives: Gauze Swabs, Sanitary Napkins. Dispose of in Biohazard Bag.

    • Green Soap Scrub Sponge (e.g. Wet Prep Green Soap Sponge) x 1
      Use to scrub dirty wounds such as abrasions in addition to irrigation with clean water and disinfecting with iodine.
      Alternatives: Soap and water.

    • Sterile Wound Closure Strips (Steristrips or Leukostrips) x 3
      Use to close skin lacerations after appropriate wound cleaning.
      Apply Wound Closure Strip across the wound to pull the wound edges together. If necessary cut in half ensuring that 2cm of tape remains on either side of the wound.
      Alternatives: Suturing, Skin Staples or strips of Fixomull.
      Caution: Do not close wounds with a high risk of infection and always seek Medical Consultation.

    • Tincture of Benzoin Swab Stick x 1
      Use to form a protective film on the skin before applying the Wound Closure Strips.

    • Elastic Gauze Bandages x 2 / Crepe Bandages x 1
      Use for immobilization and skin pressure in snakebite, fixation of dressings, compression to reduce swelling and for limb support (ankle, knee, wrist).
      Caution: Monitor skin below the bandage for signs of arterial occlusion.

    • Flexible Bandage Strips x 12 / Knuckle Dressings x 2
      Use to cover appropriate small wounds. Dispose of in Biohazard Bag.
      Caution: Do not use when there is a known allergy to Elastoplast.

    • Absorbent Non-adherent Dressings (Microdon or Cutiplast) 5cm x 7cm x 2cm; 9cm x 10cm x 1cm
      Use to cover larger cuts and abrasions where there is likely to be a significant ooze of fluid from the wound e.g. abrasions. Change daily and cover with a Waterproof dressing once ooze has ceased. Dispose of in Biohazard Bag.

    • Waterproof Dressings (Tegaderm) 6cm x 7cm x 4cm; 9cm x 10cm x 1cm
      Use to cover larger wounds where ooze of fluids is minor only.
      Apply by peeling off central portion of Tegaderm cover strip, applying sticky surface over the wound and then removing the outer cover strip. Replace every 2-5 days. Dispose of in Biohazard Bag.
      Caution: Do not use for infected/oozing wounds, monitor wound for signs of infection.

    • Eye Pads x 2
      Use to patch an eye closed in order to protect the eye from further injury, light, and / or contamination.
      To apply, fold one in half, place over the eye socket with the eye closed, use the second pad over the top of the first and secure with tape, a strip of Fixomull or Gauze Bandage.
      Alternatives: Gauze Swabs.

    • Triangular Bandage x 1
      Use for an upper limb sling or for holding splints in place.
      Alternatives: Clothing or other suitable fabric.

    • Adhesive Tape (Micropore) x 1
      Use to fix Gauze Swabs or Eye Pads to the skin or to secure bandages.
