AES Insect Light Traps – 12 volt DC 8-watt
Introducing our insect collecting light traps, made in our factory in Australia’s Northern Rivers.
This trap features a UV light source and a collection chamber designed to attract and capture a diverse range of nocturnal insects. Engineered for reliability and ease of use, it ensures precise data collection for ecological surveys and insect population monitoring projects.
300mm 8-watt Fluorescent black light tube. UV A type lamp—wavelength range is 320 – 420nm. The average is approx. 365nm at 100% power
Two types of traps, our standard trap (E700) and our light-activated trap (E701).
The light-activated trap (E701) has a switch that automatically turns the trap on at nightfall and off at dawn, thus preserving the life of the battery.
Please note these traps are NOT supplied with a battery. If required, please add one from our range below.
The battery usage is approximately 0.65 per amp hour.
Maximum working hours: A 12-volt 10-amp sealed lead battery, fully charged in good working order should last about 12 hours.
Both traps consist primarily of three sections:
- Section A consists of a white poly bucket in which two funnels are fitted. Also the container for the anaesthetic.
- Section B is the 8-watt black light fluorescent tube which is attached to three (3) clear plastic vanes. This allows a 360-degree exposure. Three stretch cords are placed at an equal distance apart from the top edge of the bucket to the metal ring at the top of the vanes to hold it in place.
- Section C covers the box which contains the solid-state electronic components. Some care should be taken to protect the electronics box from severe weather temperatures and conditions. The plastic components will warp if left exposed to temperatures above 50 degrees Celsius. The light-sensitive twilight switch doesn’t need to be exposed directly to the sun, ideally placed in shade and protected from rain.
Bucket measurements: 27cm height x 26cm diameter. Acrylic vanes: 37cm x 11cm. Assembled height: 51cm.
Gross weight: Approx. 2 Kgs.
Note: Care must be taken when using the lamps as they emit ultraviolet light which is harmful to the eyes. Avoid looking directly at the lamp when it is operating. Prescription glasses to eliminate the ultraviolet are desirable. We also offer a range of UV-blocking face shields and goggles. For more information about safety precautions, please see this article.
We offer a range of high-quality, long-life range of sealed Valve Regulated Lead Acid batteries (VRLA). The EED12140 will provide 12-14 hours of continual use for both the E700 and E701 at 8 watts. The larger EED12260 will provide 20-22 hours of continual use.
