Tanglefoot – Tangle-Trap Insect Trap Coating
Please note: Tanglefoot products are no longer in production, and we have extremely limited stocks still in supply. Please check the bottom of this page to see what stocks are still available.
Alternative range of product is TAD All-Weather Insect Trapping Adhesive which uses the same formulation.
Tangle-Trap Insect Trap Coating is an insect trapping adhesive used to make sticky traps for insect management and monitoring (ecological studies, population detection and monitoring purposes).
The material is non-repellent and does not contain any insecticides. Because it is clear and odourless, it will not interfere with the use of colour traps or pheromone attractants.
This trap coating provides excellent adhesion to surfaces and remains tacky through repeated wetting and drying cycles. The product will remain effective as long as conditions permit. It remains tacky down to 10 degree centigrade and will not run off tap surfaces up to 38 degrees centigrade.
The paste is suitable for all trapping needs and is the most cost-effective as it is in a more concentrated form. Tangle-Trap Paste is made from Polybutenes and wax.
How much is applied?
For research programs, experimentation may be required to maximize results. In general, larger insects require a heavier coat of material while small insects such as whiteflies and thrips will require a glaze coat. A heavy coat is estimated at 1/16″ (1.6mm).
A 6.35kg pail of paste will cover around 27m² for a light coat, and 4.44m² for a heavy coat.
How is Tangle-Trap removed?
Xylene and/or hexane will remove Tangle-Trap Insect Trap Coating, as will Mineral Spirits (paint thinner). Histoclear is a concentrated solvent made from citrus oil that is an environmentally safe way to remove Tangle-Trap. If it should get on clothing, dry cleaning is recommended.
