Tanglefoot – Tangle-Trap Insect Trap Coating
Tangle-Trap Insect Trap Coating is an insect trapping adhesive used to make sticky traps for insect management and monitoring (ecological studies, population detection and monitoring purposes).
The material is non-repellent and does not contain any insecticides. Because it is clear and odourless, it will not interfere with the use of colour traps or pheromone attractants.
This trap coating provides excellent adhesion to surfaces and remains tacky through repeated wetting and drying cycles. The product will remain effective as long as conditions permit. It remains tacky down to 10 degree centigrade and will not run off tap surfaces up to 38 degrees centigrade.
What is the difference between Original Paste and Brushable pastes?
We carry Tangle-Trap in two formulations: Original paste and Brushable.
The Paste Formulation is the purest grade, but the viscosity is high, requiring application with a spatula or other stiff object.
The paste is suitable for all trapping needs and is the most cost-effective as it is in a more concentrated form.
Tangle-Trap Paste is made from Polybutenes and wax.

Brushable Tangle-Trap, having reduced viscosity, is easily applied with a paintbrush. It is ideally suited for contoured trap surfaces.
Brushable Tangle-Trap has mineral spirits added to make it Brushable.

How much is applied?
For research programs, experimentation may be required to maximize results. In general, larger insects require a heavier coat of material while small insects such as whiteflies and thrips will require a glaze coat. A heavy coat is estimated at 1/16″ (1.6mm).
How much is needed for a program?
From trap size, number of traps, and the application thickness required, the amount of Tangle-Trap can be calculated. The following table is available to show the capacity of the products in ft2 for a heavy coat or a glaze coat (Area in feet squared):
|Product||Description||Heavy Coat sq. ft||Light Coat sq. ft|
|E95400||25 lb. pail||85.4||528|
|E95113||1 qt. Brush-On||6.42||46.7|
|E95114||1 gal. Brush-On||25.6||187|
Similarly, using the metric scale (metres squared):
|Product||Description||Heavy Coat sq.m||Light Coat sq.m|
|E95224||6.35 kg Pail||4.44||27|
|E95400||11.34 kg Pail||7.9||49|
|E95113||946 ml can Brush-On||0.59||4.3|
|E95114||3.8 litre can Brush-On||2.38||17|
How is Tangle-Trap removed?
Xylene and/or hexane will remove Tangle-Trap Insect Trap Coating, as will Mineral Spirits (paint thinner).
Histoclear is a concentrated solvent made from citrus oil that is an environmentally safe way to remove Tangle-Trap.
If it should get on clothing, dry cleaning is recommended.
