Assorted plastic entomological vials with push-in and screw caps.

Samco Glass Specimen Tubes (Vials)

Used for dry and wet preservation and storage of small specimens.

Three different styles of glass tubes are available:

  1. Durham Tubes that do not come with a stopper.
  2. Push-in Cap style specimen tubes. These push in caps are a tight fit, but they are not wadded caps. Recommended primarily for dry work.
  3. Screw-on Cap style specimen tubes that include Bijo or McCartney vials. These Bijo/McCartney vials have wadded plastic caps suitable for wet preservation. Insulation tape can also be applied around the tube and the cap if required.

Note: With the exception of the E77DT Series Samco G10/21 Durham tubes, all the vials come with their relative caps.

Durham tubes are used in microbiology to detect production of gas by micro-organisms.

They are also used for the storage of extremely small/delicate specimens such as Pseudoscorpions, schizomids, small examples of subterranean fauna, small crustaceans (e.g. copepods), and delicate mollusc specimens.

These micro-vials do not come with a stopper. They can be stoppered with cotton wool.

Push-in Cap Specimen Tubes

Samco Brand – Cat No. E77, E7738, E78, E78A, E79, E79A, E80, E80A, E80B, E81, E82. They are Soda Glass tubes with Polypropylene stoppers.

These push in caps are a tight fit, but they are not wadded caps.

For wet preservation work or for storage of liquid the screw type caps mentioned below might be more appropriate.

If you are ordering a large quantity and are unsure if they will fit your purpose, we suggest you order a sample of the tubes to determine their suitability.

Screw-on Cap Specimen Tubes

E83A, E84T and E85T use the screw on caps which are black in colour.

The E83-Bijo have white screw on caps.

E84T and E85T are classified as Scintillation Vials, manufactured from Low Potassium Glass with a screw neck. The E83A and E83-bijo are Glass vials with a screw neck.

Each of these type of tubes have wadded plastic caps. Insulation tape can also be applied around the tube and the cap if required.

Note: our E999A and E999AB series (which feature much stronger and more robust glass) have a rubber liner in their screw type metal caps.
