We’re excited to now offer the BioGents BG-Pro: the all-in-one light trap for entomologists and mosquito researchers. It’s the perfect trap for all habitats and mosquito species.
The Modular Trap
The BG-Pro is a new ‘modular trap’ and is ideal for collecting all types of mosquitoes. It was developed to offer the functions of the most widely used monitoring traps in one product while providing Biogents’ patented technology, production quality, and design expertise.
Its modular design provides it extreme flexibility, allowing it to be transformed easily into EVS-style, CDC-style, or Sentinel-style traps, either hanging or freestanding. ThisĀ enables you to be flexible in your monitoring programs and optimize your BG-Pro to your local and temporal monitoring needs.
Compatible with a Range of Attractants
It can be used with a range of attractants, including the extremely effective BioGents Lure, which mimics human scent for up to five months. This is particularly effective in attracting Tiger mosquitoes (Aedes albopictus and Aedes aegypti).
It can also be used with C02 to capture all mosquito species. This can be achieved either by using dry ice (the carry bag doubles as an esky, which can hang over the trap) or by using the EBG-CO2 upgrade, which attaches to your C02 gas bottle (not supplied).
An LED light can also be added.
Energy Efficient
The BG-Pro features a robust, high-quality fan. In fact, the fan is so robust that it can even be operated for days in salt water! The three-blade fan makes it energy efficient and less likely to damage specimens as they’re sucked into the catch bag. It also features an automatic shutter, preventing the captured mosquitoes from escaping in case power fails.
The trap is energy efficient and can be powered in three different ways, depending on your needs and location: using a 6-volt battery, a 5-volt battery bank, or mains power.
Performance of the BG-Pro
Field tests show excellent results indicating that the BG-Pro is at least as good as the CDC and the BG-Sentinel traps. They show superior catch rates with Aedes albopictus, Aedes aegypti, Culex spp., Culiseta melanura, and other species.
