Butterfly Bait Trap – Cone Type

The EM0017 and EM0022 are lightweight, portable pop-up Butterfly Bait Traps.

These butterfly bait traps have a full-length (about 90cm) zippered side opening for removal of captured butterflies. Uses 96 x 26 mesh polyester netting

The trap is held open by foldable rings (38cm in diameter) at the top and bottom of the black cylinder.

Inside is a white top and a white funnel with either a 10cm diameter opening (EM0017) or larger 20cm diameter opening (EM0022).

A removable bait tray (20cm in diameter, included) hangs by plastic hooks from three draw strings beneath the cylinder.

To hook the tray to the cylinder, pass the hook through the hole in the tray so the open part of the hook is outside the tray.

An 8cm long “skirt” is sewn to the bottom. You can either fold up this skirt or use the cord lock attached to each drawstring to adjust the gap between bait tray and bottom entrance.

For a larger landing platform, simply attach cardboard or hard plastic sheeting (not provided) to the bottom of the tray.

Baited traps can be used for collecting, studying or photographing butterflies. A butterfly tends to fly upwards after feeding and the design of this trap takes advantage of this natural tendency.
